Tips for storing and saving your photos
Save photos with the date first, and backwards ie. YYYYMMDD
eg. 20090614 Photo Box Class 01
This means that your photos will automatically be in date order in your folders
Have an easy to follow folder system, for example:
Photos
– 2009
– 01 January – contains photos named as above
– 02 February – contains photos named as above
– 03 March – contains photos named as above
This will allow you easily find your photos and to know at a glance when an event happened.
Download your photos from your camera and name and file them often. Set a day each week to do this if you need to.
While you may take a lot of photos from an event, only keep the best few. You don’t need 100 photos of your trip to mini golf!
Print out your photos regularly, not only will this make the job less daunting, but it will also spread out the cost and means you have your photos ready for scrapbooking when you are inspired by them.
Most importantly – back up your photos. The safest way to do this is to have a copy off site. Buy an external hard drive and take it to work or to another family member. A small external hard drive of 250Gb can be purchased for about $179 from Patrick Walmsley, email patrick@softpro.co.nz who can have it delivered to your door.
